Kids and Holidays Make Me Happy!

I love holidays!  I love all of the traditions and anticipation of these events.  However, I have never been a big fan of April Fools Day.  I don't know why, it just doesn't really appeal to me.  I've never been the "fun" mom who does silly stuff for her kids on April 1st.  Since I never do anything for it my kids barely notice the day.  In fact if they didn't go to school on April Fools Day they probably wouldn't even realize it was a "holiday."  But I work at a school with little kids.  So I knew that some of them would really have fun today. First thing a little boy came up to me and told me that he brought me some brownies today.  I was immediately suspicious because he had a huge grin on his face.  Not a happy grin, a mischievous one.  I took the foil wrapped paper plate from him and opened it.  It was a plate full of brown paper E's.  I had to admit that that was clever and laughed.  Then I had the constant - you have something on your shirt, there is a spider in your hair, and more like that.  Maybe one day I will decide that April Fools Day is fun, but until it's just another day for me.  But I do love that there are holidays that are geared towards little kids and that does make me happy.

Quick, Easy, No Sew Sock Octopus!

My daughter loves to make creations out of old socks. A while ago I actually bought her some cute stripped ankle socks that she could use to craft with. (Her older sister did snag a pair or two to actually wear!) The other day we were searching Pinterest for a fun craft idea to do together when we came across a cute octopus stuffed animal. There were no instructions just a link to an Etsy shop. (They octopus was no longer available.) My daughter immediately thought of that stash of socks and it was decided. Obviously, longer socks would have been better. If we make these again I will be buying cute knee socks! Since there were no instructions and we were using ankle sized socks, we had to come up with our own way of making these cute little sea creatures. We started by using Poly-Fil to make the head. Too Much, Too Fast

WOW! That's the first description that comes to mind of the past week or so. I can't believe how much can change in the matter of a few weeks. A month ago my worries were simple, everyday worries about things that really don't matter in the big picture. I worried about helping my daughter get time to practice for her coming up dance competition. I worried about finding time to do some extra cleaning. I worried about how I was going to get things ready for a church function that I was helping with. And so on. Now those worries not only don't seem nearly as bad, but most are now moot. Competitions and other functions have been cancelled. As have been dance, gym, yoga and other classes - even school! It seems like daily for over the past week my life has taken drastic unbelievable, crazy turns! No school and since I work at an elementary school that means no work for me either. It also meant a loss of income because I only get paid when I work. Church has been cancelled....

Adapting and Changing

I made a list of goals or habits that I wanted to implement/reach three weeks ago. It's going okay and I really like how it is set up to track. But as the weeks have gone by I can see that I need to reevaluate some of the habits. For instance, do you have any idea how hard it is to drink 128 oz of water everyday? Super hard! I haven't attained it once and it still has me running for the bathroom at very inopportune times throughout the day. That one is being changed to 68 oz for now and then I'll reevaluate again in a month to see if I should increase to 96 oz. That is one of my favorite things about habits instead of goals. Habits are changing and adaptable. If something isn't working I don't feel like my goal is a lost cause. It doesn't seem like quite the failure that it could be. A habit isn't written in stone.
